AI Use Policy & Disclosure
Last updated: June 27, 2026
Our Position in One Sentence
AI tools accelerate our research and drafting. Human editors verify every fact, exercise every gardening judgment, and stand behind every published article.
What AI Tools We Use, and How
We use large language models and AI-assisted research tools as part of our editorial workflow. Specifically, AI may be used for:
- ✅ Initial research — surfacing relevant data, statistics, and studies
- ✅ Structural drafting — outlines, section headings, content scaffolding
- ✅ Editing assistance — grammar, clarity, readability suggestions
- ✅ Completeness checks — identifying gaps in topic coverage
What We Never Use AI For
- ❌ Final fact-checking — always done by human editors against primary sources
- ❌ Subject-matter judgment — what is best, safe, recommended, etc.
- ❌ Generating fake reviews, testimonials, or user experiences
- ❌ Replacing human accountability for what is published under our name
Human Review on Every Article
Every article on Indoor Plant Guide is reviewed by Laura Bennett, our Editor & Certified Master Gardener (UC Davis #MG-7421), or a qualified guest reviewer with relevant credentials, before it goes live. This is not optional and not automated.
Specifically, the human reviewer:
- Verifies all factual claims against primary or authoritative sources
- Confirms that recommendations reflect current gardening real-world performance and value
- Removes or rewrites any AI-generated content that is generic, inaccurate, or potentially misleading
- Adds the editor signature and last-reviewed date to the published article
How to Identify Our AI Disclosure on Any Article
Every article on this site includes an "Editorial Transparency & AI Use Disclosure" box near the end of the article, summarizing:
- That AI tools assisted in research and drafting
- The name and role of the human editor who reviewed the article
- The last review date
- Affiliate disclosure when applicable
Affiliate & Commercial Disclosures
Indoor Plant Guide is reader-supported. Some articles may contain affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission when readers purchase through those links — at no extra cost to you.
We follow the FTC Endorsement Guides and California's transparency requirements. Affiliate relationships never determine our editorial recommendations.
Regulatory Compliance
We monitor and aim to comply with: FTC Endorsement Guides; California SB 942 (AI Content Transparency); EU AI Act content-identification provisions; GDPR; CCPA/CPRA.
