Understanding Light Levels
Light is the #1 factor in plant health. Most houseplant problems come from too little light, not too much. Here's a quick guide:
ð Low Light (50-250 foot-candles)
Rooms with north-facing windows, far from any window, or with heavy obstructions. Suitable for only the most tolerant plants like snake plants, pothos, and ZZ plants.
ðĪ Medium Light (250-1000 foot-candles)
Most rooms fall in this range. East-facing windows 6+ feet away, or west-facing windows 10+ feet away. Great for monsteras, philodendrons, and ferns.
âïļ Bright Light (1000-10,000 foot-candles)
South or west-facing windows within 6 feet. Perfect for succulents, cacti, fiddle leaf figs, and flowering plants.
